Transportation Office

This brown building is the office of Kumamoto city transportation. We can see some tramcar behind the building. One of them is 1356.

At Sundown

The sun is going in the Mt. Kinpou which is a silent volcano in Kumamoto city.

At the Intersection of Suidouchou

The tramline intersects with Route 3 at this point. This is one of the largest intersection throughout the tramline.

Crossing

The railroad of Japan Railways is crossing over the tramline at this point. This train has just left from the Shin-Suizenji station of the Houhi-line.

The tram of the 1930s

This photo was taken in the 1930s by my grandfather. It seems the tramline along the park where we can see a tall camphor tree. In this park, there was a mansion of the feudal lord in former times.

I took the following photo at the same position in August 2006.

About Kumamoto city

Kumamoto city is the prefectural capital of the Kumamoto prefecture. It has 670,000 people and a beautiful castle. This castle was constructed in 1607 by Kiyomasa Kato.
Kumamoto city is located in southern area in Japan.
The electric tramway is the main transportation system of Kumamoto city. It was opened to traffic in 1924.
